Unit 1 - Leisure in Action
You are here: home > unit 8 > introduction
Overview
In this unit you will work as part of a team to plan, carry out and evaluate a real project that is relevant to the leisure industry. This unit helps prepare you for employment in the leisure industry, offering you the opportunity to develop essential business skills. Your team will need to consist of two or more group members.
Where you are the only candidate taking this unit, you should join a group that is undertaking a project, such as a school activity or a local project and use this as the basis for your portfolio.
Alternatively, a team could be made up by including your teacher or your friends as the other group members. A group size of 4-8 might be thought to be ideal in most circumstances. However, this may vary according to the manageability of your chosen project, and the circumstances of your centre.
Choosing the project
The potential options for the project are numerous. Possible examples include:
• a five-a-side football competition involving other schools or colleges
• a marketing event for a local leisure organisation
• an outing for a group of younger candidates to a leisure organisation
• an outdoor activity event such as a sponsored walk.
You should be aware of the assessment criteria for this unit. You can download the criteria here:

As you complete this project you need to complete a project log to record your involvement in the project. You can download a template here:
